Situato in un'abitazione del 1750, questo museo racconta la vita della popolazione montanara attraverso la ricostituzione di 3 stanze e oggetti dell'epoca.


DescriptionPERMANENT EXHIBITION
The Montagnard museum is located in one of the oldest house of the center of the village. The museum presents a collection of ethnographic objects used in the Arve valley for agro pastoral activities in the villages and in the pastures.
Three rooms of the traditional housing is represented in the museum: the “pèle” (bedroom and living room), the “outa” (kitchen) and the “sarto” (cellar). Two rooms are dedicated to the temporary exhibition. At the ground floor, you’ll find objects in relation with the processing of milk, the porterage, the farm work and the immigration in Les Houches at the 19th century.
Albert Laprade was behind the creation of the museum. In the 20’s, he discovered the Charousse pastures. He will then undertake to preserve the integrity of this pasture and buy one after the other the pasture chalets there. Meanwhile, he collected a lot of objects in in relation with the the way of life of formerly. In 1977, he gave this collection to the municipality of Les Houches. The museum was thus born.

TEMPORARY EXHIBITION « From the garden to the plate »
From the 1st of July 2019 to the 30th of April 2020.
From the color of honey to the ingredients of the soup, from the arrival of sugar to the regulations about alcohol, come and discover how the eating and drinking has evolved in Les Houches through the two last centuries. Through different objects and themes (production, drinking, storing, buying, consuming), this exhibition shows you the different food practice from the 19th century to nowadays. Far from the touristic food, you’ll find out more about Les Houches’ History and its inhabitants throughout their vegetables, recipes and shops.

Guided tours, activities and workshops for all ages are organized throughout the year.
Groups: guided visit of the permanent exhibition on booking all year round (max. 19 persons)
Individual: guided visit on booking all year round (min. 2 persons)
