– Day 1: – 200 m /+ 45 m from top of Aiguille du Midi to refuge des Cosmiques – 50 minutes
– Day 2: + 1425 m from refuge des Cosmiques to the summit of Mont Blanc / – 1425 back down same way; add + 370 m to hike back up to Aiguille du Midi – 13/14 hours.
From Chamonix, one can access the Cosmiques hut quickly thanks to the Aiguille du Midi cable car. The second day involves yet a large vertical gain a high altitude: 1425 m from the col du Midi to the summit of Mont Blanc.
Compared to the way up the Goûter, this route is altogether more physically and technically demanding: bergshrunds found on Mont Blanc du Tacul and Mont Maudit, potentially icy and steep slopes spice up the way up Mont Maudit and Mur de la Côte before the summit. Furthermore real dangers such as serac falls and avalanches on Tacul and Maudit must be considered very seriously.
