A village in the Chamonix valley [ SERVOZ ]
About two and a half thousandyears ago ...
the Ceutrons, a tribe of Celtic origin, arrived in the valley and installed their camp in the Gures massif next to the big 'serva' lake from where Servoz takes its name. With the passing of time and due to erosion, the lake has now disappeared.
Going up the Arve valley and traversing the Chatelard tunnel you will discover Servoz at an altitude of 816 metres, the first village in the Chamonix valley, with a 360° panoramic view of the Mont-Blanc massif, Pormenaz, the Fiz and Aravis chains of mountains, the Tête Noire and the Prarion.
An authentic and traditional mountain village where pastoral activities and tourism are linked and where the sunny hamlets display all their charms, the 900 hundred permanent inhabitants welcome visitors all year round.
Worth a visit: the protected natural site of the Diosaz gorges, the Maison de l'alpage and its exhibition space, the art gallery, the craft workshops.
At any time of the year venture out onto the marked footpaths and trails and with the first snow falls discover the joys of snowshoeing.
Also in winter, discover the village ski resort of Les Houches, our next door neighbour only six kilometres up the valley, with the bus shuttle service which drops you off at the foot of the slopes.
The different accommodation providers, commerce and restaurants as well as the post office and rescue and health services, are open all year round.
Servoz, listed as part of the Savoie region's heritage, can offer guided visits of the village as well as annual events such as the Christmas outdoor market, the craft fair, local heritage days, the chirv'athlon, the sheep fair and the famous cow combats, Etc...
Easy access can be made to the village by the motorway from Geneva or Annecy (A40) or by the TGV (fast train) or standard regional train service. Geneva international airport is only 70km away with taxi or bus transfers easily available.
