"MUSEE MONTAGNARD" AT LES HOUCHES

The "Musee Montagnard" gives witness to the sometimes harsh way of life as it was in the valley in the late 18th. and early 19th centuries. On show is a considerable collection of objects and furniture used up until the 1930’s.

OPEN

In summer (from 01/07/08 to 15/09/08 included) :
Every day (except tuesday), from 3 to 6pm.
Guided Visit every monday and wednesday, at 5pm

In winter :
Monday, wednesday and friday, from 3 to 6pm.
Guided visit possible on friday at 5pm.

All the year on booking for groups.


Temporary exhibition during summer 2008 :

"DEATHS IN THE ALPS "

Dramas in the mountains regularly make front page news, however, images of catastrophes in the Alps were also popular with the pens of famous illustrators.

This exhibition presents around 30 original drawings which appeared in the press between 1880 and 1950.

THE "MAISON DE L'ALPAGE" AT SERVOZ

Information center ont he meadow and pastoral agricultural, the "Maison de l'alpage" offers year-round exhibitions, guided visits, a documented center on the alpine meadows, and different animations.
An interactive exhibition "un alpage à vivre". Numerous publications.

The association "Servoz Histoire et Traditions", presents his new exhibition, "Servoz : the life in the village from 1900 to 1980". This exhibition (on free acces), is at "La maisons de l'alpage" at Servoz.

Documents, books,newspapers, photographs, archives, postcards and souvenirs of the village, the exhibition evokes Servoz to the period of 1900 to around 1980's.
The first hall is devoted to the arrival of the train, skiing, events, dams and hydroelectric plants, and finally to the shops.
In the second room, the exhibition speaks of agriculture and livestock, craftmans and the original characters that have marked life in Servoz (with illustrations by Joelle Mrs. Bernard).
In these two rooms you can find also familiar and agriculture objects..

The exhibition is open in a same time than the tourist office.

Led by Pays de Savoie local heritage guides,

you can discover the history of Les Houches and Servoz villages.

At Les Houches :

• On the trails of the chapels, three chapels in the commune from the 17th to the 19th centuries open for the event. History, architecture, art and religious language : every thursday from 19th of june to 11th of september, at 2h30pm. (Rendez vous in front of the chapel "du lac". Vehicle necessary, sharing possible)
• By rendez vous only, History of the village and its baroque church (XVIIIème century) and Giant statue of Christ (1934)
