Panoramic views over Mont Blanc, the Aiguilles Rouges, and the Chaines des
Fiz and des Aravis. Col situated in the middle of a forest of spruce. This route was used by the Romans (1st century) to link the Saint-Gervais and Chamonix valleys.
DescriptionStart from Les Chavants, in Les Houches. At the top of the village, turn right along the road to la Cote des Chavants. Turn left up the path to the Granges des Chavants (1 256 m) 0 h 40. On the left a path goes off to the Col de Voza. Turn right and take a footpath which crosses several gullies and plunges into the forest (Vaudagne reservoir). At a bend, (1 282 m), the path joins the forest track coming from Vaudagne which climbs fairly steeply up to the col. From the Col de la Forclaz, don’t take the path down towards Monfort and Montivon, but instead take the path going in a south easterly direction through the forest towards the ridge, which you can see above the trees: this divides the valleys of Chamonix and St-Gervais. Carry on to the Grand-Prarion (1 969 m) 1 h 20. Go down the ridge towards a well marked col (diff. 2 ) and traverse the hillside towards a small knoll above some pools. The path now takes you back to the gondola lift and the hotel.
